Weekly Sermon by Pastor Danny M. Ku Title: “We Walk by Faith, Not by Sight”
Preached: November 2013
There are moments in our journey of faith when God calls us to rise above what we feel, what we fear, and what we see. These are the moments that separate religion from relationship, belief from trust, and sight from faith. The world teaches us to depend on what we can see, touch, calculate, or control, but the Word of God teaches something higher. Faith is not rooted in what is seen, it is anchored in what is eternal.
2 Corinthians 5:7 tells us, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” This is not just a call, it is a command. It is not just an encouragement, it is a foundation for how the believer lives and breathes. Faith is not a feeling we stir up when we need something, it is a posture of trust in a God who never fails, even when everything else seems to fall apart.
Throughout Scripture, we are reminded that sight can be deceiving. In Numbers 13, the spies looked at the giants in the land and trembled, but Joshua and Caleb looked with eyes of faith and saw promise. In 1 Kings 18, Elijah saw a small cloud the size of a man’s hand and declared that an abundance of rain was coming. In John 11, Mary and Martha saw the grave of Lazarus, but Jesus saw the glory of God waiting to be revealed.
Walking by faith means we trust God’s word more than we trust our own perception. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” It is holding onto hope before it arrives, believing in healing before the symptoms disappear, praising before the breakthrough comes, and standing still when everything in you wants to run.
Jesus lived and ministered from a place of unshakable faith in the Father. He healed the blind, raised the dead, fed thousands with little, calmed storms with a word, and faced the cross with resolve, because He trusted the plan of heaven. He walked in faith, not sight, even when the road led to suffering, even when the crowd turned, even when the tomb was sealed. His resurrection was the greatest proof that walking by faith is never in vain.
We are called to follow His steps. Faith is not just believing that God exists, it is living every day as if He is present, active, and faithful. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” This is the essence of faith. It is not leaning on what makes sense, it is leaning into Who God is.
Life will always present us with obstacles, uncertainties, and disappointments. Sight will tell you that your situation is impossible, but faith tells you nothing is too hard for God. Sight will tell you it’s over, but faith tells you God is just getting started. Romans 8:24-25 reminds us, “Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.” Faith requires patience. It requires courage. It requires surrender.
When we walk by faith, we stop reacting and start trusting. We stop panicking and start praying. We stop chasing approval and start obeying. Faith moves us from the natural into the supernatural. It teaches us to depend on God in the silence, to hold fast in the storm, and to stay anchored in His Word no matter what we feel.
James 1:6 says, “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt.” Faith is not a backup plan. It is the main plan. It is the foundation on which we build our families, our futures, and our ministries.
To walk by faith is to wake up each day and say, “Lord, I don’t know what today holds, but I know who holds me.” It is declaring, “I may not see the outcome, but I trust the One who knows the end from the beginning.” It is choosing to trust when the bank account is low, when the door stays closed, when the doctor’s report is negative, and when the path is unclear.
Let us remember, God is not moved by what we see. He is moved by faith. Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” Not difficult, but impossible. God responds to faith. He honors faith. He moves through faith. When we walk by faith, we open the door for His power to work in ways that go beyond what eyes can see.
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of faith. Thank You for reminding us today that we are not called to live by what we see, but by trust in who You are. Teach us to walk boldly, to love deeply, to obey fully, even when we don’t have the full picture. Strengthen the weary, encourage the doubting, and lift those who feel lost in the fog of uncertainty. Help us to stand firm, knowing that You are always faithful. We give You glory, in Jesus’ name, amen.
