Title: “Inspired to Serve”
📖 Preached: October 2012
There are moments in our journey of faith when God calls us to pause and remember who we are and who we represent. We are not just believers, we are His hands, His feet, and His heart on this earth. When we forget this, we lose sight of the very reason we were called. But when we embrace it, we begin to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, who came not to be served, but to serve. In a world that constantly says, “Look out for yourself,” Jesus whispers, “Give of yourself.” And that whisper, if we listen closely, is the very heartbeat of heaven.
There is no greater example of love than Jesus Christ, and no deeper expression of that love than how He chose to serve. He came not to be served, but to serve. Not to demand, but to give. He healed, taught, embraced, and gave of Himself, not for recognition, but out of compassion.
Jesus didn’t just talk about love, He lived it. He noticed the forgotten, He sat with the broken, He walked beside the rejected. His service wasn’t part of a performance, it was the essence of who He was. In every act of kindness, in every miracle, in every word spoken in grace, Jesus revealed the heart of a servant.
Galatians 5:13 reminds us, “Serve one another through love.” That is the call, not just for a few, but for every believer. We do not serve to be noticed, we serve because love lives within us. When Christ transforms your heart, it becomes impossible to ignore the needs around you.
To serve like Jesus means to lead with compassion, to move with grace, and to love without condition. It means being willing to show up when no one claps. It means helping the weary, comforting the hurting, and walking the extra mile when you feel like sitting down.
True service is often quiet. It happens in the background, far from the spotlight. But heaven sees it. God honors it. Jesus modeled it.
He served the hungry, the sick, the poor, and the proud. He met people where they were, with no thought for status or reward. And if we are to be His followers, we must do the same. Not from pressure or guilt, but from genuine love.
Look around. There is someone near you who needs the hands and feet of Jesus. You may be the answer to someone’s silent prayer. Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Don’t wait to feel ready. Just love. Just serve. Just give.
The world is full of needs. But the greatest need is still love in action. And when that love flows from a heart surrendered to Christ, it becomes a light in the darkest places.
Let us pray:
Lord Jesus, thank You for showing us how to serve. Thank You for loving without limits. Help us reflect Your heart in our actions. Teach us to see others through Your eyes and to respond with compassion. Let our lives be living proof of Your love. May we serve not to be praised, but to bring You glory. In Your holy name, amen.
